The Go-Go's - Beauty and the Beat (1981)

The Go-Go's began a six-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart with their album, "Beauty And The Beat." This would be the first of five albums the group would chart and their only No. 1. It spawned the hit singles, "Our Lips Are Sealed," which peaked at No. 20 on the Hot 100 and "We Got The Beat," which made its way to No. 2 for three weeks stalled behind Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, and their smash single, "I Love Rock 'N Roll." "Beauty and The Beat" was certified double Platinum. The Go-Go's sophomore album, "Vacation," was also a Top Ten hit peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 Chart and was certified Gold. Their final Top 40 album, "Talk Show," peaked at No. 18. A greatest hits collection, aptly titled, "Greatest," peaked at No. 127 and following their third brief reunion, they scored their final charted album, 2001's "God Bless The Go-Go's." Lead singer, Belinda Carlisle had a respectable career as a solo artist scoring three Top 40 albums between 1986-89, all of which were certified Gold including one Platinum. She has also scored nine Hot 100 singles which included six Top 40's, four Top Tens and one No. 1. Her biggest solo hit, "Heaven Is A Place On Earth," the title track from her Platinum-certified album, went to No. 1 on December 5, 1987 and was followed up with two additional Top Tens from the album. Even though the Go-Go's broke up in 1985 but reconvened several times through the 1990s and beyond, recording new material and touring. Though their 2016 performances were billed as a farewell tour, the band remains active on a sporadic basis, most recently with three performances at The Hollywood Bowl in July 2018. A short summer tour was scheduled for 2020 with all five original members but 2020 happened.
