Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Stop Dragging My Heart Around (1981)

July 25, 1981 - 40 Years Ago Today: Stevie Nicks (with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers) had the Hot Shot Debut at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with their single, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." This Tom Petty/Mike Campbell-penned song was the leadoff single from Nicks' debut solo album and it peaked at No. 3 for 6 weeks beginning September 5, 1981. The single was produced by Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty. Nicks had already scored one Hot 100 Top Ten hit outside of Fleetwood Mac with the 1978 single, "Whenever I Call You 'Friend'," with Kenny Loggins. Nicks scored 4 hits from "Bella Donna." The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and was certified quadruple Platinum. Stevie Nicks was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice --first in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist in 2019.
