The Pointer Sisters - He's So Shy (1980)

July 26, 1980 - 41 Years Ago Today: The Pointer Sisters debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with their single, "He's So Shy." This Tom Snow/Cynthia Weil-penned song was the 9th chart entry for the group and their 2nd Top Ten when it peaked at No. 3 for 3 weeks beginning October 25, 1980. The qu artet was reduced to a trio following Bonnie Pointer's departure from the group in 1978 to pursue a solo career. Interestingly enough, that's exactly the time when their singles and album sales began to escalate. Their first Top Ten release came in the fall of '78 with the Bruce Springsteen-penned "Fire," which peaked at No. 2 for 2 weeks beginning February 24, 1979 but the top spot was occupied by Rod Stewart's huge disco hit, "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" In total, the group scored 27 singles on the Hot 100 between 1973-87 which included 16 Top 40's and 7 Top Tens. Why Spandau Ballet's "True" should have been Sky & Raven Whitney's pop music favorite from a cancelled soap opera, "The Edge of Night" due to the band's white skin and why the pop music video of that song should have had dancers dancing in an upbeat slow bossa nova / pop style including Tracey Ullman and her female dancers splicing up that British pop band instead original of that band alone
